UCSC Global Seminar: Evolution and Fish Biology in Southern Africa

Enter the fields of South Africa and Malawi and learn about Evolution (human evolution, kin selection, sexual selection, genomics) and Fish Biology (taxonomy, physiology, ecology). Study fish ecology and evolution through fieldwork in Kruger National Park, Sterkfontein Caves, and snorkeling at Cape Maclear. Conduct research as you explore Southern Africa and present your findings in a research paper.

This program takes place during Summer Session 1.

General Eligibliity Requirements

  • Remain in good academic standing
  • Maintain the required cumulative GPA of a 2.3
  • Maintain good academic and disciplinary standing at my home institution
  • Be at least 18 years of age by departure
  • Be at least sophomore standing (45 units completed) by departure
  • Valid passport (or proof of submitted application)
  • Meet program-specific eligibility requirements if applicable (see below)

Program Specific Requirements

  • Completion of the Biology Series Courses 20A, 20B, and 20C by the end of Spring Quarter, 2024
  • Proficient in swimming
